Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has opened up about the significance of the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London, where Nigeria will face off against long-time rivals Ghana in a highly anticipated semi-final clash.

Chelle emphasised the opportunity the Unity Cup presents for the Super Eagles to test new players and tactics ahead of crucial competitive fixtures later in the year.

Ahead of the competition, Chelle has released an interesting 25-man squad that features a blend of established stars and promising talents.

The team includes France-based winger Moses Simon, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, and veteran forward Ahmed Musa.

The squad also boasts several standout players from the Nigeria Premier Football League, reflecting Chelle’s commitment to integrating home-based talents.

Speaking to the NFF, Chelle had this to say about the trip and competition for his Eagles.

“We’re looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October,” Chelle said.

The Unity Cup, featuring Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, will be held at the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, West London.

The tourney kicks off on Tuesday, May 27, with Trinidad & Tobago facing Jamaica in the first-ever ‘Trini-Jam’ match on UK soil.

The following day, Nigeria and Ghana, three-time and four-time African champions respectively, will reignite their intense 74-year rivalry in the second semi-final, a fixture loaded with history and passion.

The tournament concludes on Saturday, May 31, with a third-place playoff and the grand final to crown the 2025 Unity Cup champions.

For Chelle and the Super Eagles, the Unity Cup is more than just a tournament; it’s a vital opportunity to build cohesion, assess emerging talents, and prepare for the challenges ahead of the 2026 WCQ, all while renewing a fierce rivalry with Ghana on an international stage.
