A Liverpool side mired in controversy faces a formidable challenge at the San Siro on Tuesday night as they look to get their Champions League campaign back on track against a high-flying Inter Milan.

The Reds' recent 3-3 draw with Leeds United was overshadowed by a dramatic post-match outburst from Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian star told reporters that his relationship with manager Arne Slot had completely broken down, plunging the club into turmoil.

The fallout from Salah's comments has dominated headlines, creating a difficult atmosphere on Merseyside. The situation has not been helped by the team's recent form.

After starting their European campaign with three wins in four, Slot's men were thrashed 4-1 by PSV Eindhoven in their last outing, causing them to slide to 13th in the league phase table. Only the top eight teams secure automatic qualification for the round of 16.

In stark contrast, last season's finalists, Inter, are in a strong position. Currently fourth with four wins from five games, their only recent setback was a narrow, late defeat to Atlético Madrid.

Under new manager Cristian Chivu, the Nerazzurri remain a force in both Serie A and Europe. A commanding 4-0 victory over Como on Saturday has them sitting second in the league, just one point behind leaders Napoli.

Team News

Following an exceptional performance against Como, Chivu might be tempted to field an unchanged lineup. However, with this being Inter's fourth match in just ten days, rotation seems likely to avoid fatigue.

Should changes be made, Yann Bisseck could enter the defence, summer signing Petar Sucic may get a start in midfield, and Ange-Yoan Bonny could partner the in-form Lautaro Martínez up front.

The Inter captain, who previously scored at Anfield against Liverpool, is in scintillating form. The team will be without Denzel Dumfries and Matteo Darmian, who are both sidelined with muscle injuries.

The pre-match focus is squarely on the absence of Mohamed Salah, who has been left out of the squad entirely following his public criticism of the manager. The winger had already seen his playing time reduced, having been an unused substitute in two of the last three league games and playing only a half against Sunderland.

In Salah's absence, Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to continue on the right wing, supported by Conor Bradley, who recently returned from injury. With Bradley's return, Liverpool's only absentees are Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, and Stefan Bajcetic.
