I’m very sorry: Rudiger, 32, takes responsibility, apologises for disappointing behaviour in El Clasico
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has issued a heartfelt apology for his actions during the chaotic climax of the Copa del Rey final, where he was one of three players red-carded in a 3-2 extra-time defeat to FC Barcelona in Seville.
The 32-year-old German centre-back took to his Instagram story to express regret for his behaviour, which saw him dismissed for throwing a bag of ice toward referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea and displaying an aggressive attitude.

The thrilling El Clasico saw Barcelona take an early lead through Pedri, only for Real Madrid to fight back with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Ferran Torres forced extra time with a late equaliser, and Jules Koundé’s 116th-minute strike sealed Barcelona’s record-extending 32nd Copa del Rey title.
However, the match was overshadowed by controversy as tensions erupted after a denied foul call on Mbappe, sparking outrage from Real Madrid’s bench.
Rudiger, already substituted, was sent off alongside Jude Bellingham and Lucas Vázquez.
The incident capped a heated night, with Real Madrid’s pre-match accusations of refereeing bias adding to the tension.
In his statement, Rüdiger wrote: “There’s definitely no excuse for my behaviour last night as I’m very sorry for that. We played a very good game from the 2nd half on.”
“After 111 minutes, I was not able to help my team anymore and before the final whistle, I did a mistake. Sorry again to the referee and to everyone I have disappointed last night,” he added.
Rudiger’s apology comes amid potential disciplinary consequences, with the defender facing a possible multi-game suspension.
The defender’s public plea reflects his acknowledgment of letting down his team and fans in a high-stakes clash, as Barcelona celebrated a significant step toward a potential treble.
