I worked as a bricklayer to buy boots - Super Eagles star reveals
The Super Eagles star Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed how he worked in Nigeria before he could get himself training materials.
Awoniyi was signed by Nottingham Forest last summer for what was a club record £17 million fee at the time.
Awoniyi signed for the Reds from Union Berlin in the summer.
He was part of the winning team at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, where he scored four goals in eight appearances for the Golden Eaglets.
He also won the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and Africa U-23 Cup of Nations with Nigeria.
I worked hard to buy boots in Nigeria
Awoniyi told Nottingham Forest on and off the pitch that he had worked too hard in Nigeria to buy boots.
He added that he worked in the bakery and as a bricklayer.
He said, "I had done almost every job in Nigeria back then, I worked in a bakery and worked as a bricklayer. The most challenging part of it was getting the money to buy the football Shoes.
Taiwo Awoniyi set to return to action
Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has confirmed that Taiwo Awoniyi is set to return to action.
Awoniyi has been out of action since January 4, when he scored the winner against Southampton but then limped off.
Cooper said he has returned to training and is ready to help the Reds.
Awoniyi had scored five goals before injury struck.
The head coach was delivering the news during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s game with the Wolves.
“He’s back now. He looks sharp. He looks motivated and excited to be involved again.
“We look forward to reintroducing him, whenever that may be. We have to be careful with him, because he’s been out for a long while; we have to respect that. It’s just good to have him back on the training ground," He told Nottinghamshire Live
Nottingham Forest will host Wolves on saturday at the City Ground.
