Nkunku was linked to Manchester United and Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, but ultimately stayed at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca's comments came after Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Ham on Monday night, where Nkunku was once again named as a substitute.

"Christo, since day one, has been very good, very professional," he said.

"Probably in some moments I have been unfair to him because he probably deserves something more."

Maresca expressed hope that Nkunku can contribute more to the team going forward.
