'I almost gave up' - Elaine Thompson-Herah gets emotional during interview on injury challenges

Double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah was emotional in a post-race interview after winning the women's 100m event at the JAAA All Comers meet in Kingston, Jamaica clocking 11.24s.

Thompson-Herah, who returned to track action since her last race in April, and her victory in Jamaica was her first 100m race of the season.

In a post-race interview with GIO Talk Sports, the 30-year-old talked about how she almost gave up due to her injury challenges this season.

"It has been a challenging one, but I still hang on. I almost gave up, but you know I have faith, and I came out here to just test my body to see where I'm at," she said.

Thompson-Herah also revealed her training progress and being grateful that she's just back to running.

"I wouldn't say my training has not been where I wanted it to, but the fact that I missed so much and I came over to run 11.23 today, not running that long, I'm just grateful," she continued.

The Jamaican speedster hoped to lower her time as the season progresses and if not, the goal will be working towards Paris Olympics.

"If it doesn't go how as I want it to, you know next year is Olympics season, I would definitely work towards that. Sometimes your body needs time to heal and if it's telling me what it needs to do, I would have to take a break, take a season, and to work on myself."

Thompson-Herah's next race will be at the Jamaican trials, where she'll gun to make the world championships team to Budapest.
