How Beatrice Chebet is priming youngster Faith Chepkoech for glory

Faith Chepkoech has shared the inspiration she draws from Beatrice Chebet after her dominant win in the 5000m at the second Athletics Kenya meet happening at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata.

Chepkoech unleashed a finishing kick to claim top honours in the women’s 12 and a half lap race and explained that she learned the skill from Chebet, who is also her training mate.

“Beatrice Chebet motivates me and I always watch her run…she has a superb finishing kick. Today, I told myself I will try to replicate her style of running, and that has worked well for me. I train with her,” she said.

Chepkoech added that the race was good and attested that God had been faithful in her journey towards winning the race.

Meanwhile, the women’s race started off with more than 10 youngsters aiming to achieve glory during the chilly morning event.

After three laps, the leading pack had already started opening the gap with Chepkoech sandwiched between the experts of the 5000m race.

Chepkoech held on to the leading pack that also included Rebecca Mwangi who was fresh from competing in the women’s 10,000m and finishing second.

After the seventh lap, the athletes were taking turns leading the pack and Chepkoech was still running in third place, looking very comfortable and poised to go for top honours.

Chepkoech kept her cool until about 200m to go where she unleashed a strong finishing kick to outsmart Virginia Nyambura who was forced to settle for second-place.
