Handball: Adamawa Warriors, Rivers Queens 2023 crowned National D1 champions
Adamawa Warriors have emerged as the champions of the National Division One League 2023 after an epic clash against Sunshine Kings of Akure in the final.
The Warriors defeated the Kings in a closely fought encounter at the indoor sports hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.
National Division One brief
The Yola-based team, who got promoted to the Ardova Handball Premier League on day 5 after shockingly defeating tournament favourite COAS Shooters, encountered faced an end-to-end battle against Sunshine Kings.
However, they eventually overcame their opponent with a 22-20 victory to be crowned champion of the Division One League.
Sunshine Kings, who have also gained promotion and will play in the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024, finished second while COAS Shooters settled for third position after defeating Nasarawa Ambassadors 34-25.
Women’s category
In the women's category, Rivers Queens were crowned champions after going unbeaten in the National Division One League. They have also gained promotion to the Ardova Handball Premier League.
COAS Babes finished second after they comfortably defeated Fountain Queens 35-19 and they also earned a promotion to the Ardova Handball Premier League.
Mindscope Academy ruthlessly saw UNIBEN with a 32-17 victory.
