Benni McCarthy’s men paid the price for their wastefulness in front of goal on Friday when they ended up drawing 1-1 with Estonia before losing 5-4 on post-match penalties to miss the chance to contest the final.

Kenya conceded through a 20th minute header from Tanel Tammik but Ryan Ogam brought them level after the break although he would later waste more chances as well as Lawrence Okoth to miss an opportunity to win the match.

McCarthy will be encouraged by his team’s second half display on Friday as they totally dominated Estonia, with a 59% per cent possession, with five attempts, two on target.

Meanwhile, they face a Grenada side that were thrashed 4-0 by Rwanda also on Friday but the contest is a mismatch of some sort as Kenya are ranked 112 on the FIFA ranking while the Caribbean minnows are 163, some 51 places below them.

Harambee Stars come into the match on the back of a four-match losing run, something McCarthy will be looking to arrest, with their loss to Estonia following an 8-0 thrashing by Senegal which was preceded by 1-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea, both in friendly matches, as well as a 3-0 defeat to Ivory Coast in a World Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile, Grenada’s 4-0 loss to Rwanda was after a 1-0 defeat to Jamaica, that coming after three straight wins, two won by an identical score of 4-1 over British Virgin Islands and United States Virgin Irelands in between a 2-0 victory over Cuba.

McCarthy confirmed a major injury setback after revealing that Spain-based winger Job Ochieng will not be involved after suffering a hamstring injury against Estonia.

Ochieng came off after 41 minutes and has since been allowed to head back to Spain to continue his recovery at his club Real Sociedad.

McCarthy is expected to ring the changes to offer game time to some of his players who were not involved on Friday as he is keen to assess everyone.

Score Prediction

Kenya 3-0 Grenada

This should be an easy game for Kenya if they convert most of their chances as there will be several opportunities to score. With the cleverness of Zech Obiero and Austine Odhiambo in the team and the finishing touch of Ryan Ogam, McCarthy’s team should run riot.
