Gor Mahia Hand AFC Leopards Title Boost After Stalemate Against Stubborn Sharks
AFC Leopards have a chance to close within two points of Gor Mahia if they win on Sunday after the FKF Premier League leaders dropped two points on Saturday.
Gor Mahia could not find a way past a stubborn Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Stadium, playing out a goalless draw, to miss an opportunity to move seven points clear of second-placed Leopards.
The game had few major talking points in the first half and it was until the 46th minute when Shariff Musa saw his effort blocked after a rare opportunity in front of the Sharks goal.
Gor Mahia fans had to wait until the 67th minute when K’Ogalo had another opportunity which fell to Enock Morrison but his long-range effort went wide.
With time running out, both sides tried to secure a late winner with some frantic efforts in the final minutes but with no end product.
Flurry of Late Chances but No Goals
Alpha Onyango drew a good save from the Sharks goalkeeper from a well-taken freekick that was destined for the top corner five minutes from time while Stephen Bwire nearly scored for William Muluya’s side in the 87th minute after getting into the box before Mike Kibwage thwarted the chance.
Deep in stoppage time, Sharks teen sensation Humphrey Aroko nearly pulled off the spectacular as he unleashed a long-range shot but Gor Mahia goalkeeper Gad Mathews was equal to the task as he went low to keep it out.
It was two points dropped for Gor Mahia, whose tally now stands at 57 points from 26 games, five more than second-placed Leopards, who have also played as many matches.
Ingwe can, however, narrow the gap to two points if they secure maximum points away to Murang’a Seal in Sunday’s early kickoff, which could make up for an exciting title challenge in the final two months of the season.
