Sack Everyone - Ghana fire coach after AFCON agony, promise new roadmap
The Ghana Football Association has been plunged into chaos after the devastating shock of their early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, sacking coach Chris Hughton immediately.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can report that Ghana’s FA swung into action 24 hours after the Black Stars surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Mozambique in the final game of the group stage in Group C on Monday.
Ghana at AFCON
The Black Stars needed to win at least their final group stage match against the Mambas after one defeat and a draw in the first two games to keep their AFCON 2023 hopes alive.
However, despite Jordan Ayew giving Ghana what looked like a comfortable 2-0 lead following two penalty goals in either half, a dramatic late capitulation ended their dreams.
Mozambique netted two goals in added time for a share of the spoils that proved too costly for Ghana and their Black Stars.
24 hours after the match, stunned officials swiftly decided to sack their manager after it was officially confirmed on Tuesday night that Ghana will exit AFCON 2023.
The Ghana FA through its Executive Council relieved Hughton and his crew of their duties and vowed to quickly put together a roadmap to future success for the Stars.
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect,” the FA said in a statement on its official website.
“The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars.
The Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the statement added.
Ghanaians React
Following the decision from the FA, angry Ghanaians took to the comment section of the body’s social media account to voice their concerns and frustrations.
The fans, who have been left wondering how their Black Stars fell short once again on the big stage, asked the FA to sack everyone, with others also asking members of the FA to sack themselves.
Here are some of the reactions from visibly angry and disappointed Ghanaians, who wanted to see their Black Stars win a fifth AFCON title in Ivory Coast.
