Georgia Hunter Bell Shocks 1500m Field as Susan Ejore Fades to Eighth at World Indoor Championships
Georgia Hunter Bell stunned a strong field to win the women’s 1500m in a world-leading time of 3:58.53 at the World Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland.
The Briton started her campaign on a high note, showing her intent to dominate and her effort paid off well with a stunning victory.
Australia’s Jessica Hull, the Olympic 1500m silver medallist, finished second in an Area record time of 3:59.45 as American Nikki Hiltz rounded up the podium in a personal best time of 3:59.68.
Susan Ejore-Sanders, the only Kenyan in the final, managed to cross the finish line in eighth place in a season’s best time of 4:04.05.
World Indoor Championships: Women’s 1500m
Susan Ejore entered the race as Kenya’s sole representative, looking to make a mark against a strong field. Competing in Heat 2, the Kenyan distance runner finished third in 4:11.41.
The heat was won by Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom, who clocked 4:10.66 as Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska rounded up the podium in 4:11.33.
The first heat was won by Frenchwoman Agathe Guillemot, who crossed the finish line in a time of 4:16.25, ahead of American Nikki Hiltz, who finished in a time of 4:16.32. Italy’s Ludovica Cavalli sealed the podium in 4:16.45.
Heat 3 was dominated by world 800m silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell, who crossed the finish line in 4:12.09. Jessica Hull finished second in 4:12.45 as Gracie Morris completed the podium in a time of 4:12.57.
World Indoor Championships: Men’s 1500m
In the men’s race, Spaniard Mariano Garcia claimed the top honours in the race, executing a tactical display to clock 3:39.63.
Portugal’s Isaac Nader was forced to finish second in the race, crossing the finish line in 3:40.06 ahead of Australia’s Adam Spencer, who sealed the podium in 3:40.26.
