Maguire has dropped down the pecking order at Manchester United and is now effectively the 5th choice centre-back at the club.

The former Red Devils captain was close to a move to West Ham before the transfer collapsed days before the transfer window closed.

Maguire played the full 90 minutes of England's Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine on Saturday and Southgate has hinted at a continued role for the 30-year-old.

"He's a very experienced player, and he's looked very good in training. Harry knows where our support is," Southgate said of Maguire after the Ukraine match.

"He knows he has to keep playing well for us, and I think over the next few weeks, given what's happening with their squad with injuries, he may well have a lot more minutes for [Manchester United] as well."
