From Dreams to Tragedy: 28-year-old Gabonese footballer falls to his death from 11th floor
Gabonese footballer Aaron Boupendza has died after reportedly falling from the 11th floor of his apartment building in China.
TMZ Sports reports the former FC Cincinnati and international star’s death occurred on Wednesday, and Chinese authorities are treating the incident as “suspicious”, launching a full investigation.
Boupendza lost his life aged 28.

Boupendza was well known to MLS fans, especially in Cincinnati, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s historic 2023 season.
He helped the team clinch the Supporters’ Shield and win the Eastern Conference.
FC Cincinnati issued a heartfelt tribute on Instagram saying:
“We are saddened to hear of the tragic passing of former FC Cincinnati forward Aaron Boupendza earlier today at his home in China.”
“Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and teammates. He was a loved member of the FC Cincinnati family, and we offer our condolences to all who knew him. Rest in Peace, Aaron.”
A glittering career cut short
Boupendza’s journey in football began in 2015 and took him across the globe.
The Gabonese forward amassed an impressive 96 goals in 218 appearances for both club and country.
His breakthrough came in Turkey, where he signed for Hatayspor in 2020.
His incredible goal-scoring form made him the Süper Lig’s top scorer for the 2020–21 season.
From there, he moved to Al Arabi in the Qatar Stars League, where he lifted the Qatar FA Cup in 2022.
He later joined Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia before signing for Zhejiang FC in China.
A full international for Gabon since 2016, he represented his nation at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, leaving his mark as one of the country’s most prolific talents.
