Embattled FKF Boss Hussein Mohammed Gets Temporary Reprieve as Court Halts his Ouster
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has received a relief somewhat after the Sports Disputes Tribunal suspended a decision to have him step aside.
Mohammed, nominated NEC member Yusuf Ibrahim and acting CEO Dennis Gicheru, were suspended by a section of the FKF National Executive Committee members last Friday over allegations of misuse of funds and vice president McDonald Mariga installed as president in an acting capacity.
This was following an alleged Ksh42 million CHAN 2024 insurance scandal where claims have been made of the tender being awarded a single-sourced and suspect firm against lower bids from well-established entities.
Tribunal Suspends Mohammed’s Removal
With Mohammed dismissing the allegations and his ouster, and FIFA asking for crucial information about the events leading up to the suspension, the FKF boss also sought legal redress and the Sports Tribunal has suspended his removal pending a hearing.
The tribunal has certified the matter as urgent and ruled that no action arising from the NEC meeting that suspended Mohammed, Abdullahi, and Gicheru and appointed Mariga as acting president, can take effect until the case is heard and determined, with the matter set for mention on May 5.
It is another twist to what is becoming a complicated situation regarding the organisation responsible for running Kenyan football.
While Mohammed has received the temporary relief, the action of the 12 NEC members has soured relations and it is hard to see how the president and the executive will work together going forward, putting the game into jeopardy.
