Enzo Maresca has reportedly asserted that it is "not worth talking" about Mike Maignan or other transfer targets currently not in the squad.

Despite Maignan's reported desire to leave AC Milan and his unwillingness to extend his contract beyond 2026, the two clubs could not agree on a transfer fee

Milan reportedly valued him higher, around €25-30 million, and Chelsea were reportedly unwilling to pay an inflated price, perceived as a "Club World Cup tax," to secure him before the tournament deadline.

The Italian manager faced questions about previous negotiations for the Milan goalkeeper ahead of the Blues’ Club World Cup clash with Los Angeles FC.

Maresca conveyed a clear message regarding Chelsea's goalkeeping situation, stating that Robert Sanchez is currently considered the No. 1, followed by Filip Jorgensen and noted the recent addition of Mike Penders to the squad.

Robert Sanchez

“The goalkeeper situation is quite easy and simple. Robert [Sanchez] is the No.1, then Filip [Jorgensen]. [Mike] Penders joined us,” Maresca said.

“We’re gonna see in the next weeks. We’ll have time to analyse and judge him and then take a final decision. For the rest, Maignan, or other players who are not with us, I don’t think it’s worth talking about them.”

Supporters will be keen to hopefully catch a glimpse of the highly rated Penders, who joins from Belgian side Genk.

The towering shot-stopper, likened to Thibaut Courtois, made 25 appearances in all competitions last term.
