FA Cup final: Dean Henderson emulates Chelsea legend’s feat in Eagles success over Man City
Dean Henderson matched a FA Cup final record in Crystal Palace’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
FA Cup final
Henderson was the star as his team beat City at the Home of Football.
The goalkeeper twice denied Erling Haaland in the first half, first forcing him wide and then saving Omar Marmoush's penalty after a Tyrick Mitchell foul on Bernardo Silva.
The Englishman also made a stunning save from Jeremy Doku, and despite City's second-half pressure and the introduction of Phil Foden and Claudio Echeverri, Palace's defence remained resolute.
Henderson capped his performance with a late save from Echeverri, ensuring Palace secured a memorable point despite ten minutes of added time.
Henderson emulates Cech
With his penalty stop, denying Marmoush, Henderson emulated former Chelsea goalkeeper as the first goalkeeper since 2010 to save a spot-kick in the FA Cup final.
Cech denied Kevin-Prince Boateng in that final’s 54th minute, before Didier Drogba sealed victory for the Blues with a free-kick.
Take a bow, Dean Henderson. 👏
