Epic victory: Super Eagles new boy shows Nigerians what to expect as Getafe stun Atletico

Nigerian star Chrisantus Uche and Getafe CF pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat Atletico Madrid 2-1 at the Coliseum, ending Diego Simeone's team's long-standing unbeaten record at the venue. 

The match was a defining moment for Getafe's Nigerian midfielder Uche, who recently earned a spot in the Super Eagles' provisional squad for the World Cup qualifiers.

Uche, known for his versatility in playing both midfield and attacking roles, delivered a solid performance from start to finish. 

His statistics from the game highlighted his contribution: 66% pass accuracy, one chance created, one key pass, 100% dribbles completed, seven passes into the final third, two tackles won, one interception, and four recoveries. 

Additionally, Uche won six of seven ground duels and three of four aerial duels, showing his physicality and skill on the pitch that will put a smile on Nigeria’s new coach Eric Chelle.

The match seemed destined for an Atletico win after Alexander Sorloth converted a penalty in the 75th minute, giving them a 1-0 lead. 

However, Getafe's Mauro Arambarri turned the game around with a quickfire double. First, he scored from close range after Atletico's Angel Correa was sent off in the 88th minute. Then, in added time, he deflected a shot past goalkeeper Jan Oblak to seal the victory.

This win not only witnessed a significant upset but also demonstrated Uche's ability to perform under pressure in big games. 

Uche's display against Atlético will have undoubtedly impressed Nigerian fans and Chelle and reinforced his position as a promising talent in the team as he prepares for his potential Super Eagles debut.
