Emmanuel Wanyonyi: How to Vote for 800m World Champion and Co in World Athlete of the Year Awards
Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Peres Jepchirchir and Sabastian Sawe are the three Kenyans who have made it to the final list of the World Athletics Awards 2025.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi made the list courtesy of his dominant exploits at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, where he won the 800m title.
He will be battling against Noah Lyles, who won his fourth consecutive world title in the 200m. Noah Lyles started his winning streak at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, before defending his title in 2022 and winning it in 2023.
For the women’s track athlete of the year, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will be up against Femke Bol. Peres Jepchirchir headlines the women’s out-of-stadium athlete of the year awards, and she will be up against Maria Perez.
Sabastian Sawe and Alphonce Simbu made the final list of the men’s out-of-stadium athlete nominees, with Mondo Duplantis and Mattia Furlani battling it out in the men’s field athlete of the year. Tara Davis-Woodhall has been nominated for the women’s field athlete of the year alongside Nicola Olyslagers.

According to World Athletics, one of the two athletes who have made the final list will take the crown in their category.
World Athletics has provided a link for fans to cast their final-round vote. The process will take place between November 4 to 9, and the process will also help select the overall women’s and men’s World Athlete of the Year.
World Athletics Awards: Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Faith Kipyegon and Co Snubbed
In a move that shocked thousands of fans, triple world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, four-time world 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon and double world champion Beatrice Chebet did not make the final list.
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden became the first American woman and the second woman in the world behind Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win gold in the women’s 100m, 200m and 4x100m at the same World Championships.
On her part, Faith Kipyegon broke the 1500m world record and also claimed her fourth world title. Beatrice Chebet secured double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m and also broke the 5000m world record competing at the Prefontaine Classic.
