Nigerian international Bright Osayi-Samuel shone brightly on his debut for Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship, earning both the official Player of the Match award and the fans’ Player of the Match in a thrilling season opener against Ipswich Town.

The home side dominated much of the early and middle parts of the match, albeit under intense pressure from Ipswich.

However, Ipswich were rewarded late on. In the eighth minute of added time, a controversial penalty decision against substitute Lyndon Dykes allowed George Hirst to score from the spot and level the match, denying Birmingham their deserved victory.

Nonetheless, the spotlight rightly belonged to Osayi-Samuel, whose all-around display affirmed his value as a defensive rock and creative spark, qualities that will be crucial as Birmingham aim to push for promotion.
