DR Congo’s path to the 2026 World Cup took a dramatic turn during the CAF qualifiers when they secured a hard-fought victory over a powerhouse Nigeria side.

Following the win, the Leopards had to navigate a high-stakes legal appeal by the NFF regarding the eligibility of Axel Tuanzebe, whose documentation was briefly called into question.

Once FIFA cleared the federation of any wrongdoing, the team maintained their focus to enter the final intercontinental playoff round with immense momentum.

In a historic winner-take-all clash in Mexico, it was Tuanzebe himself who became the hero, scoring a 100th-minute winner in extra time to defeat Jamaica. This hard-earned triumph marks a defiant return for Congolese football.
