This represents a huge blow to Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino who is believed to have earmarked the French defender for a starring role next season.

The 22-year-old who arrived from Leicester City at the start of last season, has now had reconstructive surgery to repair the ACL and is expected to be sidelined for up to 9 months.

With Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta no longer at the club, and Badiashile expected to miss the first few weeks of the new season, Pochettino is searching for alternatives.

According to 90min, Manchester United's Harry Maguire is on the market and has emerged as a target for the Blues.

The 30-year-old has been stripped of his captaincy and shown the door at Old Trafford.

There is serious interest from West Ham, Newcastle, and Serie A giants Inter and Juventus but a potential move to Stamford Bridge could be his most appealing option this summer.
