It was Frank Lampard’s third consecutive loss in all competitions since returning to Stamford Bridge.

Despite the Blues opening the scorning, the West Londoners were totally dominated on their own turf courtesy of the sheer brilliance of Roberto De Zerbi’s team.

Chelsea opened the scoring after a mazy run from Mykhailo Mudryk was finished off by Conor Gallagher whose effort deflected past Robert Sanchez in the 13th minute.

However, Brighton responded really well creating lots of chances as the Blues looked weak defensively with Kaoru Mitoma easily weaving past the Blues' defence.

And in the 42nd minute, their persistence paid off as Danny Welbeck fired the visitor's level as both teams headed into the break with the scoreline level.

Second Half

The Blues were absolutely dominated in the second half as Brighton schooled the hosts on the art of attacking.

In the 56th minute, Frank Lampard, desperate to pick up a win made four changes withdrawing Christian Pulisic, Enzo Fernandez, Wesley Fofana and Raheem Sterling and bringing on Joao Felix, Reece James, Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech to try and win the game.

However, those changes appeared to have been made in vain as Brighton completed the comeback in spectacular fashion after Julio Enciso unleashed a sensational strike from outside the box leaving Kepa with absolutely no chance.

Brighton continued to look the better side after that goal and could have easily made it four, had it not been for Kepa's saves.

However, the Seagulls did get the job done at full-time, running away with all three points from Stamford Bridge.

The win for Brighton leaves them in 7th place, five points above Liverpool who play Leeds United on Monday.

Chelsea on the other hand remain in a lowly 11th, ahead of their crucial second-leg tie against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals
