In a heartfelt homage, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau paid glowing tribute to the late Christian Chukwuemeka Chukwu, Nigeria’s revered former Green Eagles captain and legendary figure in African football.
Gusau's sentiments stressed Chukwu’s immortal legacy and unwavering dedication to the nation’s football progress.

According to an NFF report, a delegation representing the NFF and the Football Associations (FA) from Southeast Nigeria visited Chukwu's family home in Enugu to express their condolences.
Speaking through the NFF’s 1st Vice President, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, Gusau emphasised Chukwu’s profound impact on Nigeria's football landscape.
"Chukwu was a diligent and patriotic leader who dedicated his life to the growth and development of Nigerian football. His service extended beyond the pitch—his leadership and patriotism inspired generations," Gusau affirmed.
The NFF President hailed Chukwu as a true hero, both as a player and as a coach, whose achievements and character will forever remain in the annals of Nigerian sport.
He noted that the NFF will fully participate in organising his burial, ensuring honour is accorded fittingly.
A Legacy That Will Never Be Forgotten
Gusau highlighted the importance of unity in commemorating Chukwu’s legacy, stating, "This visit was not mere condolence but an effort to align with the family’s plans and ensure his contributions are celebrated appropriately."
The delegation was also keen to understand the family’s arrangements for the final rites, with Chukwu’s son, Emeka, expressing gratitude for the support.
"We appreciate the solidarity from the football community. Our family will soon announce the schedule for the final burial rites of our beloved father, who led Nigeria to victory in the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations and earned the Most Valuable Player honors," Emeka shared.
