The victory marked United's third consecutive Premier League win, a feat they hadn't achieved since February 2024.

Summer signing Matheus Cunha opened the scoring for the home side in the first half, with Casemiro doubling the lead shortly after with a deflected shot. Bryan Mbeumo appeared to seal the win on the hour mark, putting United 3-0 ahead.

However, Brighton mounted a late comeback, with goals from Welbeck and Charalampos Kostoulas setting up a tense finale. As the visitors pushed for an equaliser, Mbeumo struck again deep into stoppage time, securing the three points for the Red Devils.

The win temporarily lifts Manchester United into the top four, and Welbeck, who came through the United academy, was impressed by what he saw from his former team.

"It is the best [Manchester United] side we have faced in a while," Welbeck told Sky Sports.

"They were really organised and structured. They always have incredible players, and today they really punished our mistakes."
