Boniface: Nigerian striker asks for plantain after brilliant Bundesliga debut for Bayer
Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has demanded a special Nigerian food after making his Bundesliga debut at the weekend.
Boniface was impressive as Leverkusen held off RB Leipzig in a five-goal thriller at the BayArena on Saturday.
Pulse Sports monitored the game as the 22-year-old helped his team to a hard-fought 3-2 on the opening day of the season.
Boniface vs Leipzig
Having impressed in their pre-season, following his move to Germany from Union Saint-Gilloise, Boniface retained his place in the starting team for the Bundesliga opener.
It took only 24 minutes for the Nigerian forward to show what he is capable of as he set up teammate Jeremy Frimpong for the opener.
On the occasion of his official debut, Boniface proved to be a handful for the Rb defence throughout his stay on the pitch.
He completed the most dribbles, three, created one chance, in addition to his assist and did not shy away from his defensive duty with five recoveries before he was subbed off in the 89th minute.
Leipzig went on to score two goals on the day but Bayer had just enough in their tank to seal all three points to get their season up and going.
Boniface reacts
After the game, the youngster took to his Instagram page to react with a short video of his performance against the Super Cup winners.
Attached to the video was a message a gratitude to God before Boniface revealed that he wants some Nigerian plantain.
“On GOD,” he posted. “Abeg if you Dey come into my life come with plantain abeg,” Boniface added.
