Gor Mahia left it late but secured a 2-0 win over Bandari FC in their FKF Cup encounter on Saturday at the Mbaraki Sports Club.

The FKF Premier League champions named Gad Mathews in goal donning the armband and experienced defender Philemon Otieno to marshal the backline as returning striker Benson Omala led the attack.

Bandari, on the other hand, had goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo between the posts, with Siraj Mohammed anchoring the defense, while Fidel Origa captained the side.

Gor Mahia started brightly, pressing the hosts early in the game.

Despite Gor Mahia’s relentless pressure, Bandari held firm, and the first half ended goalless.

At the start of the second half, Gor Mahia made four changes, bringing on midfielder Austin Odhiambo, Alpha Onyango, Lawrence Juma, and Samuel Kapen for Philemon Otieno, Ernest Wendo, Shariff Musa, and Rodgers Ouma whileBandari opted to stick with their original lineup.

Both teams continued to search for a breakthrough, but it wasn’t until the 90th minute that midfielder Alpha Onyango finally broke the deadlock after being set up by Bryson Wangai.

Moments later, Gor Mahia doubled their lead in stoppage time when striker Benson Omala marked his return with a goal, sealing a hard-fought win.

The victory sends Gor Mahia through to the quarter-finals of the FKF Cup.
