Belgian giants slap over N28billion on 17-year-old dubbed next Victor Osimhen
Royal Antwerp youngster George Ilenikhena has become one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, with the 17-year-old Nigerian-born striker drawing comparisons to Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen.
Ilenikhena has enjoyed a breakout season with the Belgian club, scoring eight goals in the league and 14 across all competitions, despite often having to settle for substitute appearances.
Belgians Name Price for Next Osimhen
According to reports from Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant, Antwerp require a financial SOS and view Ilenikhena as the player who can bring the most money to the club.
The report suggests Antwerp paid €6 million for the teenager and are now demanding at least €20 million to part ways with him.
This hefty price tag has not deterred the interest of some of Europe's top clubs, with Italian champions Inter Milan leading the chase.
The Nerazzurri are in the market for a fourth striker this summer, with Alexis Sanchez and Marko Arnautovic both expected to depart the San Siro this summer.
Inter's interest in Ilenikhena has been well-documented, however, the Serie A giants may face stiff competition from wealthy Premier League clubs who have also entered the race for the highly-rated forward.
The report states that Ilenikhena's growth potential is "enormous", and it's easy to see why he has drawn comparisons to Osimhen, another Nigerian striker who has gone on to become a star at Napoli after leaving Belgium.
With Antwerp determined to get the best possible price for their prized asset, it remains to be seen which of Europe's top clubs will ultimately win the race to secure Ilenikhena's signature this summer.
