Barcelona step up Gundogan chase with improved contract offer

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is out of contract at the end of this month and his future remains uncertain. 

The 32-year-old has a contract offer on the table from Manchester City but he is yet to commit as he looks for a longer commitment from the Etihad club. 

Barcelona have been linked with the City captain for several months and according to The Athletic, Xavi has been in contact with the midfielder, working to convince him to make the move to Spain.

There are doubts that Barcelona’s improved offer will be enough, as the club cannot offer Gundogan any guarantees he will be registered under La Liga rules. 

City, and manager Pep Guardiola especially, are pushing hard to secure Gundogan’s renewal. Gundogan’s camp insist no final decision has been made, but he will have to make a decision sooner or later.
