The Catalan publication reports that sporting director Deco met with Williams' agent, Felix Tainta, at a Barcelona hotel today.
Last summer, the winger was close to joining the club but ultimately opted to remain at San Mamés.
Although president Joan Laporta recently ruled out another attempt to sign the Spanish international, the ongoing search for reinforcements on the wing, coupled with the failed pursuit of Liverpool's Luis Diaz, has led to renewed talks.
Barcelona make Nico Williams' move
Having secured the signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, Barcelona have now turned their attention to Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, according to "Sport".
The Blaugrana, who are also targeting Manchester United's Marcus Rashford, face stiff competition for Williams' signature.
Not only are Bilbao hoping to extend the 22-year-old's contract, but Bayern Munich and Arsenal are reportedly prepared to activate his €62 million release clause.
Williams is said to prefer staying in La Liga and is also friends with several Barcelona players through the national team.
The biggest hurdle for Barcelona remains ensuring they can register him in the league, the same issue that prevented his transfer last summer.
Deco reportedly assured Tainta during today's meeting that this would not be a problem this time.
Meanwhile, Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal has seemingly confirmed the renewed interest in Williams.
The youngster posted a picture on Instagram expressing his joy alongside the Athletic player during a match with the Spanish national team.
