Athletics Kenya announce new dates for All-African Games national trials
Athletics Kenya have announced new dates for the All-African Games national trials and the National Cross-country Championships.
The All-African Games trials were initially supposed to be held on February 16 and 17 at the Nyayo National Stadium but had to be pushed forward in honour of departed marathoner Kelvin Kiptum who passed away on Sunday, February 11.
Kiptum was in the company of his coach, Gervais Hakizimana who also lost his life in the road accident that happened outside the Rift Valley town of Eldoret.
The 24-year-old Kenyan athlete, who was driving a Toyota Premio, and his coach died at the scene of the crash.

From the national trials, they seek to select a formidable team for the All-African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The trials will now be held on March 5 and 6 at the Nyayo National Stadium with the National Cross-country Championships being held on March 2 at the Kenya Prisons Grounds in Ruiru.
Meanwhile, the Athletics Kenya offices will remain closed on Thursday and Friday in honor of the late Kelvin Kiptum.
Kiptum will be laid to rest on Friday, February 23, 2024, in Chepkorio Village, Elgeyo Marakwet Athletics Kenya also noted that the normal office operations will resume on Monday, February 26.
