While initially the marathon had hoped to register 20,000 participants, that number had to be bumped up to 23,000 which has since been exceeded with over 25,000 registered participants poised for showdown.
The Stanchart Marathon boasts numbers with the 5km, 10km and 21km races selling out hours before the registration deadline.
“The Stanchart Nairobi Marathon is the only athletics event in Kenya where more than 20,000 people come together to run for a purpose, 20,000 trees are planted and brand visibility is maximized through passion marketing,” said Joyce Kibe, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing.
The large number of participants will be enticed by the sum of large sponsorship deals that have gone into organizing the marathon.
The 21st edition has received a major boost of Ksh 173 million from sponsors that will go into enhancing the experience of the participants.
The race will kick off along the Southern Bypass, directly across from the Carnivore Restaurant, and will conclude at the nearby Uhuru Gardens.
This year's event features former 5000m African champion and seasoned athlete Frida Lopeda.
