AFCON 2027: Everything You Need to Know as Talanta Stadium Enters Final Construction Phase

Kenya’s growing readiness and pride in hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) is taking firm shape through the construction of the Talanta Stadium, a 60,000-seater world-class facility at Jamhuri Grounds, Nairobi.

According to a recent progress update shared by the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr Raymond Omollo, the project has transitioned into its most refined stage of development.

The massive concrete and steel superstructure is now complete, allowing the focus to shift toward the intricate technical systems and interior aesthetics that will define the fan experience.

"The project is in its final construction phase, with the superstructure complete and works focusing on seat installation, broadcast systems, lighting and final electrical and ICT fittings. Internal finishes are nearing completion, with installed public address systems, screens and floodlights bringing the arena closer to operational readiness," PS Omollo provided a clear picture of the current works on-site.

Beyond its impressive capacity, the stadium stands out for its sophisticated engineering and commitment to environmental sustainability.

The exterior facade, inspired by the national emblem, is supported by a computerised hydraulic tension cable system, a feature that places it among a select group of globally advanced stadiums.

Furthermore, the stadium incorporates an irrigation pump room, fire and domestic water storage systems, and a roof-harvested rainwater management system.

This system is specifically engineered to collect, treat, and recycle water for pitch irrigation, ensuring that the world-class playing surface remains in peak condition while minimising the facility’s ecological footprint.

As Kenya gears up for the inspection of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in August, the government is leaving nothing to chance regarding security and logistics.

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has taken a lead role in ensuring the venue meets international benchmarks.

"The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has been instrumental in synchronising multi-agency operations around the project, overseeing compliance with national event security standards, coordinating crowd management frameworks and aligning local administrative units to support the stadium's certification as a secure, tournament-ready venue," PS Omollo said.

With complementary amenities such as retail spaces, modern changing rooms, and VAR-enabled officiating suites, the Talanta Stadium is steadily taking shape.
