AFCON 2023: Watch Victor Osimhen bows down to Didier Drogba after Super Eagles' win over Ivory Coast

After Nigeria triumphs over Ivory Coast, Osimhen, visibly filled with respect for Drogba, was seen attempting to prostrate before him in the tunnel. 

This gesture is a traditional sign of respect in South West Nigeria, where Osimhen grew up. The two later shared a hug, a heartwarming display of mutual admiration and sportsmanship.

Osimhen's attempt to prostrate to Drogba, a revered figure in African football, speaks volumes about the respect he has for the Chelsea legend. 

The Nigerian striker revealed how much he respects the Ivorian legend and how he never missed his game as a kid.

Reflecting on this journey, he shared with the Confederation of African Football's official website, "Life is surprising; when I was younger, I never missed a Didier Drogba match. 

"I imitated each of his gestures, and I did his celebration when I scored against my friends. Participating in a TotalEnergies CAF AFCON in the native land of my idol is an honour for me. 

"I have the impression of being reconnected in a certain way with the kid from Olusosun that I was and who had a lot of dreams, including that of one day being Africa's champion."

While fans had mixed reactions to Osimhen winning the Man of the Match award, it's undeniable that his performance, including winning the penalty that led to Nigeria's victory, was crucial. 

His respect for Drogba and his significant contribution on the field highlights his growing stature in African football.
