AFCON 2023: Ghana turn to prayers, Egypt through on a night of massive drama

At the 90th-minute mark, Ghana led Mozambique 2-0, but the former turned into self-destruction mode to surrender two goals in the next three minutes before it ended 2-2.

At the Alessane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, on Monday, a Jordan Ayew brace looked to send Ghana through to the Round of 16 until Geny Catamo and Reinaldo Mandava appeared.

With just two points, Ghana's chances of qualifying as one of the four third-best-ranked teams are very minimal, but they will hold on until the group-stage matches are done before packing their bags.

In the same group, Egypt squeezed through to the Round of 16 despite failing to win a single group stage match.

Their final bout was as dramatic, ending two-all against Cape Verde, with two goals in added time for either side.

Cape Verde took a first-half through Benchimol, but the Pharaohs fought back and led, thanks to goals from Trezeguet and Mostafa Mohamed.

That was before Bryan Teixeira snatched a point for Cape Verde at the death.

Cape Verde stamped their Group B leadership with seven points, while Egypt, who were without the injured Mohammed Salah, also made it to the knockout stages.
