Addis Ababa Grand Prix: Schedule and Key Matchups
Ferdinand Omanyala arrives in Addis Ababa coming off a strong season opener in South Africa, where he clocked 10.19 seconds.
The reigning Commonwealth Games champion is using this meet as a vital stepping stone before heading to the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi next week. He will be up against his younger brother, Isaac Omurwa, with Mark Otieno also scheduled to compete.
Triple Olympic champion Gabby Thomas will also be competing in the 200m against reigning Kip Keino Classic 100m champion Maia McCoy. After a commanding 11.00-second 100m win earlier this month, she is expected to light up the track in Ethiopia.
Thomas has expressed excitement about competing on African soil for the first time, part of a three-city tour that will also take her to Nairobi and Gaborone.
Kenya’s Mercy Chebet is also scheduled to test herself ahead of the Kip Keino Classic, with Ferguson Rotich also entered in the men’s 800m.
The Addis Ababa Grand Prix is a Silver-level event on the Continental Tour, where athletes are competing for crucial world ranking points and prize money.
