Union Saint-Gilloise Victor Boniface has been named the UEFA Europa League player of the week.

The Nigerian striker was immense in USG's thrilling 3-3 draw against Union Berlin, scoring a brace, including a potential goal of the tournament.

Europa League announced today  via their official Twitter account that Boniface has been named the player of the week.

The award follows an impressive performance for his club in their draw against Union Berlin, and he wins the award ahead of other impressive performances this game week. 

Bruno Fernandes for Manchester United against Real Betis, Tapsoba for Bayer Leverkusen against Ferencvaros, Marko Dmitrovic for Sevilla against Fenerbahce and Di Maria for Juventus against Freiburg were some of the performances Boniface's pipped for the award.

The Nigerian striker stunned the footballing world his his long range attempt to fire USG ahead in the game, but the goal was only a part of an impeccable performance.

USG let their lead slip after Boniface put them ahead, and with the game at 2-2, the striker scored his second of the game, putting them ahead, however a late goal by Sven Michel to save the home side's blushes meant USG would only settle for a draw.

Boniface was a constant threat in the tie, proving impossible to deal with for the usually solid Union Berlin defence, and they will be expected to pay extra attention to the 22-year-old striker in the return leg at the Stade Joseph Marien stadium.
