Simbas will play in the second tier of the 2023 South African Currie Cup.

Kenya is set to host three Currie Cup First Division Mzansi Challenge fixtures, the Kenya Rugby Union has announced.

The national 15s rugby team, Simbas, will play three home matches at Nairobi's Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) grounds on consecutive weekends.

Simbas will play against the Zimbabwe Goshawks on May 20 then face Valke on May 27 before hosting SWD Eagles a week later.

Kenya will kick off the Currie Cup campaign on April 1 against Boland Kavaliers in South Africa.

Simbas will spend two weeks in South Africa and play against Leopards, San Clemente Rhinos, Eastern Province, before the tour against Border Bulldogs on May 6.

Jerome Paarwater's coached side will then travel across the South Africa border to Namibia, where they will face Windhoek Draught Welwitschias.

This will be the second time that Simbas will be participating in the Currie Cup, having debuted in 2022,where they finished eighth on the log with 18 points having won three of the nine matches played.

At that time, they played two fixtures in Nairobi and KRU stated that the matches were made possible following a commercial agreement with Direct Sports Management (DSM).

The Currie Cup is the world's oldest provincial rugby competition, first played in 1892.

The tournament is the backbone of South Africa's and Springbok's rugby.
