Malkia Strikers vice-captain Trizah Atuka is elated to be back to the Women’s National Volleyball team after battling a series of injuries.

Atuka, speaking on KTN Sport, said she missed out on the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to an injury and noted it means a lot being back in the national team ahead of the FIVB Challenger Cup and the African Senior Women's Volleyball Championship.

The team jetted out of the country on Saturday, July 8, to Morocco for a residential training camp ahead of the two assignments.

“This is a great opportunity for me to be back on the team after a while. After picking up an injury it was a tough time for me.

"This means a lot since I missed an opportunity to play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after I suffered an injury…it was a very difficult moment for me because this was something I was dreaming of but I couldn’t honour that because of the injury,” Atuka said.

She added that this is another chance for her and is looking forward to earning points and hopefully qualifying for the Paris Olympics in 2024.

The Kenya Pipeline player noted that her journey back has not been a walk in the pack since she had to do a lot of training to regain her fitness.

“It’s been a process of recovery…I have done a lot of strengthening to come back to the game stronger. Currently, I think I’m fit and ready to compete. This an opportunity for me to realise my dream again,” she said.
