Nairobi United is officially challenging the decisions made by both the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee (LCC) and the FKF Disciplinary Committee regarding their recent clash with giants Gor Mahia.

The dispute centres on a fixture that came to an abrupt halt in the 58th minute. Following the disruption, the FKF LCC reviewed the circumstances surrounding the stoppage and ultimately ruled that the match would be recorded as a draw.

For Nairobi United, this decision was far from satisfactory. The club contends that the ruling does not accurately reflect the events on the ground or the regulations governing abandoned matches.

Dissatisfied with the internal FKF appeals process, the club has sought intervention from the SDT the highest sporting legal body in the country, to overturn the verdict.

Why Nairobi United is Moving to the SDT

Nairobi United’s move to the SDT highlights a growing trend of clubs seeking independent arbitration in disputes with the federation.

Nairobi United is pushing for a more favourable outcome, potentially arguing for a replay or a forfeiture by the opposition, depending on the evidence regarding who was responsible for the abandonment.

The club is questioning whether the FKF’s judicial committees followed due process and applied the FIFA and FKF statutes correctly.

In a league where every point counts toward promotion or survival, a draw instead of a win can drastically alter a club's seasonal trajectory.

Today’s session is a mention, which typically serves as a procedural stepping stone. The Chairman of the SDT is expected to confirm if all parties (Nairobi United, the FKF LCC, and the Disciplinary Committee) have filed their respective submissions.

The chairman will also set a timeline for the hearing of the substantive application and issue any interim orders if requested by the petitioners.

A ruling in favour of Nairobi United could set a precedent for how abandoned matches are handled in the future, demanding higher standards of evidence and consistency from the federation’s committees.
