Gor Mahia Midfielder Makes Candid Remark on CHAN Place After Harambee Stars Nod

The former Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder admitted that he expected the CHAN call-up after working hard to impress Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy.

Gor Mahia midfielder Ben Stanley Omondi is elated to have received a Harambee Stars call-up in the provisional squad ahead of the African Nations Championship scheduled for August 2 to 30.

Ben Stanley Omondi revealed that he was not surprised following the call-up, disclosing that he had worked extra hard for it since the season started.

Omondi revealed that his main target was to catch Benni McCarthy's eye, and to have finally done it was a dream come true.

Ben Stanley Omondi: It’s Always An Achievement

“It’s always an achievement to be called up to the national team. I worked very hard during the season, and I expected it because every day I put in extra effort, knowing that my focus was on CHAN since January. When I got called up, I was happy because it was an achievement, and I had worked hard for it,” Ben Stanley Omondi told Pulse Sports.

He also assured fans to show up in the stadium in large numbers, noting that they will not be disappointed as Harambee Stars maintain the main goal of the season, winning the CHAN trophy.

The final of the tournament will be played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Ben Stanley Omondi hopes that Harambee Stars will be there.

“Elite performance…I know all of us are looking forward to giving our best in representing our country. We want to win CHAN, but for me, it shall just be a day at a time and give 100% in every game,” he noted.

Omondi added that the call-up is a great opportunity for local players who will be able to get the much-needed experience and also get playing time in the off-season.

According to the former Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder, the local players now have a chance to impress Benni McCarthy too, and hopefully get call-ups for other tournaments.

“The preparations are okay, we are doing well and are just waiting for the tournament to come. This is a very good opportunity, and as Kenyan players, this is an opportunity for us to express ourselves, showcase our talents and get more playing time,” he noted.

“Many call-ups are always for those players who play for international clubs, and we want to embrace this.”

CHAN is set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Harambee Stars are in Group A and will lock horns with DR Congo, Morocco, Angola and Zambia.
