Mercy Nyanchama Outclasses Rivals to Win Golfer of the Year Tourney at Ruiru Golf Club

Mercy Nyanchama claimed top honours at the Ruiru leg of the KLGU Golfer of the Year series with an impressive round of 74.

Mercy Nyanchama stole the show at the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Golfer of the Year (GOTY) tournament at the Ruiru Golf Club on Saturday.

Golfers from across the country were battling it out for top honours, but it was Mercy Nyanchama who claimed top honours. Nyanchama carded a superb gross score of 74.

Speaking after the event, Mercy Nyanchama was elated to have come out on top, noting that everything worked out well.

“Today, everything just came together. The course was in great condition, and I felt confident with every shot,” Mercy Nyanchama said.

“Competing against such talented ladies and coming out on top is truly humbling. I’m grateful to KLGU and Ruiru Golf Club for hosting such a well-organised event."

Division A Gross

In Division A Gross, Kanana Muthomi, playing off a handicap of -1, beat her peers to claim the gross winner’s title with 77 gross.

Benta Khanili, who tied with Kanana Muthomi, was forced to take second place, with Chanelle Wangari (H/C 0) finishing third, also scoring 77. Joyce Njuguini (H/C -1) finished just outside the podium with a score of 78 gross.

"We are proud to have hosted this prestigious leg of the GOTY series. The talent on display today was simply outstanding,” Lady Captain Rodah Mukami said.

“Events like these are not just about competition but about growing the game and inspiring the next generation of female golfers.”

Division A Nett

The Division A Nett category saw Beldina Monchari (H/C 20) reign supreme after scoring 67 nett. Lydia Mokaya (H/C 18) came in second with a matching 67 nett, with Rebecca Njui (H/C 19) rounding up the podium with 69 nett.

Division B Gross

Virginia Munyao (H/C 21) won the category with 91 gross, followed by Priscilla Karobia, who scored 92 gross, to finish second.

Anne Ngumba scored 94 gross, H/C 22 for a third-place finish, while Adah Munyendo (95 gross, H/C 28) secured the fourth place.

Division B Nett

Elizabeth Nyambura (H/C 37) clinched the winner’s trophy after an excellent 62 nett with Peris Kamau (H/C 31) following with 67 nett as runner-up. Patriciah Ngahu (H/C 30) came third with 71 nett.

With the KLGU GOTY series now in full swing, attention turns to the upcoming legs where more golfers will be looking to climb the leader board and solidify their standings in what promises to be a closely contested season.
