The Nigerian wizard, who graced the Bolton Wanderers and Hull City midfields, never harboured ambitions of transitioning into the demanding world of coaching after calling time on his illustrious playing career in 2006.

Following his Premier League adventures, Okocha enjoyed a brief stint in Qatar before reuniting with his former Bolton manager Phil Brown at Hull City.

Since hanging up his boots, the midfield maestro has embraced an ambassadorial role in Nigerian football, undertaken media work, and occasionally laced up for charity matches, showcasing his enduring talent.

Despite the numerous former teammates who have ventured into coaching, Okocha has consciously avoided the pressures and complexities of the dugout.

Speaking to Sportsboom, he explained his decision with characteristic candour, "Everyone can't be a coach. It's not for me."

He said further, "It’s always good to try what suits you best and what you have passion for. I don’t think I can withstand the pressure of being a coach because your destiny is not really in your hands."
