Omija, who recently produced a man-of-the-match display against Ivory Coast in Malawi for Harambee Stars, is even more confident ahead of the COSAFA challenge.

Harambee Stars defender Alponce Omija has exuded confidence as he and his teammates prepare to fly out of the country to South Africa on Tuesday Morning to take part in the COSAFA Cup, which will commence on 27th July.

Omija grabbed the headlines when he put in a man-of-the-match display against Ivory Coast on his first start for the main side two weeks ago in Malawi during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and is now full of confidence as he prepares to take part in the upcoming competition in order to add more experience under his belt.

The Oman-based defender has analyzed the opponents in the group. They will be facing Zimbabwe, Comoros and Zambia, and he is super confident that the boys are up to the task and will stop at nothing till they take the trophy back home.

“It is a good tournament with some good teams, so we are going there as a strong team that is talented,” Omija told the media.

“Our ambition is to go there and come back with something. If we do, it will be very good for the boys considering the different parts we come from.

Omija is confident that the teams Kenya will be facing will be no match for their quality, bullishly stating the Kenyans could not afford to let the guard down against them.

“In our group, no one is to be underestimated. We are somewhere and they are not. We have to show our level there.

“We are ready, having been invited guests. We want to show what we are capable of from there.”

Omija is adamant the upcoming tournament will be a good chance for those itching to better their careers to get opportunities to launch their professional careers.

“You never know who could be watching you in South Africa. You never know who will be casting an eye on you while seated at the terraces. People only remember those who finish first.”

Kenya’s journey in the 2024 COSAFA Cup will commence at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, where they are scheduled to face Zambia at 7pm on June 27th.

Following their opener, Kenya will move to Wolfson Stadium to meet Comoros on June 30 with the kickoff for this encounter set for 1 PM.

The team's final group match will also take place at Wolfson Stadium, facing Zimbabwe on July 2, again at 1 PM East African Time.
