Highway were eliminated by Dagoretti High in the boys' football final of the just concluded Nairobi School games but have a chance to make ammends in the Africa games set to take place in Morocco from 15th to 30th August.

Fast-rising Highway Secondary School coach Beldine Odemba has vowed to put the disappointment of being knocked out in the final of the Nairobi School Games behind her as her team prepares for the Africa School Games scheduled to take place in Morocco from August 15 to 30.

After reaching the final of the East African games in 2022 having dominated the national school games, they will not get a chance at the 2023 edition, as they fell out 1-0 to Dagoretti High School courtesy of a Dhor Khang's wonder strike in the 22nd minute of the final played at the Moi Girls School, Nairobi on Tuesday.

Odemba, who also coaches the Junior Starlets (Kenya u18 girls), and Police Bullets and also served as Mathare United assistant team manager until their relegation last season, says the side must now focus on the African School games in Morocco. She is also confident that ‘her good team’ will do well at the continental stage, having prepared well for them.

“I do not believe there was a battle of the midfield because my opponents never played through the midfield. When we controlled the ball down, we had an advantage but the opponents played long ball.

We were unable to convert chances. In football, sometimes, it is about luck or better preparation from the opponents. I have a very good team. It just was not meant to be," Odemba said.

She added that they had played with some Division One teams and all the matches they have been playing so far were in preparation for the continental showpiece in Morocco.

"All the matches that we have played so far were kind of preparations for us. We have also played a number of friendlies against Division One teams.

I feel that we are prepared. Sometimes there is a lot of pressure when you are playing at home or against a certain opponent. I believe that we have prepared well. We are not going to Morocco to participate. We are going to compete

I never got a chance to see how my opponents are playing but I believe we are up to the task,"Odemba said
