Four-time FKF Women’s Premier League champs set their sights on CECAFA Zone triumph.

Vihiga Queens are all set to embark on a thrilling journey as they prepare to leave for Uganda on Thursday evening to take part in the CAF Women’s Champions League 2023 qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone.

The four-time Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League (FKFWPL) champions have been diligently honing their skills during an intense training camp in Nairobi, in anticipation of the qualifiers scheduled to kick off from August 12 to 30.

Under the guidance of Coach Charles Okere, Vihiga Queens found themselves placed in Group B of the qualifiers, along with formidable opponents such as JKT Queens from Tanzania, AS Kigali from Rwanda, and New Generation FC hailing from Zanzibar.

The Queens will face off against New Generation of Zanzibar in the inaugural match of the tournament, slated for August 13 at the Star Times Stadium in the vibrant city of Kampala.

Coach Okere, brimming with confidence and a strategic vision, expressed his optimism about the upcoming challenges.

In a recent interview, he confidently stated, “We haven’t met any of the teams in the pool but we have watched their previous matches and I think they are very beatable.

To enhance the team's capabilities, Okere has made a strategic decision to infuse fresh talent.

“We are going there to win the cup home and qualify for Ivory Coast. We have brought in three players to the team to strengthen the team," he remarked.

As the departure date draws near, Coach Okere has opted to keep the list of traveling players under wraps, a decision supported by the team management.

The shroud of mystery adds an element of anticipation and excitement, building up the intrigue around the team's strategic lineup.

In a grouping filled with football powerhouses, Vihiga Queens is poised to deliver an exhilarating performance on the pitch.

The competition in Group A includes formidable teams like Uganda’s Kampala Queens, C.B.E FC from Ethiopia, F.A.D FC from Djibouti, Buja Queens representing Burundi, and Yei Joints FC hailing from South Sudan.
