Ulinzi Stars goalkeeper sidelined for season due to knee injury, impacting team's performance in FKF Premier Football League.

Ulinzi Stars first-choice goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng' has been ruled out for the remainder of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League season following a severe knee injury.

The 29-year-old custodian suffered a posterior cruciate ligament tear during a match against Bidco United on November 5, sidelining him for an extended period.

This is a significant blow to Ulinzi Stars, as Ochieng has been a vital part of the team since his debut in October 2021.

"Goalkeeper Ochieng Stephen will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after sustaining a posterior cruciate ligament tear during our Match against Bidco FC last November," the club stated in an official release.

In the absence of Ochieng, Michael Wanyika has stepped up to the challenge, taking his place between the posts, while veteran James Saruni remains a strong backup option on the bench.

Ochieng, a former Mathare United player, has been a consistent performer for Ulinzi Stars.

His debut against his old club Mathare United marked the beginning of a promising career with the Soldiers.

The news comes as a setback for Ulinzi Stars, who are currently positioned 11th in the league with 17 points from 16 matches.

The Soldiers' next challenge is a face-off against AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium, a match that promises to be a thrilling encounter and will be broadcast live on Azam TV.

The absence of Ochieng is likely to be felt in this crucial match, as Ulinzi Stars aim to climb up the league table.

The team's coach Antony Kimani , in a recent interview, emphasized the importance of staying focused.

"One area that we need to work on and focus on that has not worked for us so far is our attacking department," he said.

“We have been creating numerous opportunities but have not been able to take those chances. The other issue we need to work on is our concentration levels, and that can be because of a few factors."

Fans and supporters have expressed their well wishes to Ochieng on social media, hoping for a speedy recovery.

The goalkeeper's determination and strength have been evident throughout his career, and many are optimistic about his return to the field next season.
