Nairobi Governor has pledged support for AFC Leopards' 60th anniversary and beyond.

Financially ailing FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards has received a significant boost from Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, who has made a generous Ksh2 million donation towards the club's 60th-anniversary celebrations.

The announcement was made during a brief ceremony at County Hall, marking a significant gesture of support for the club.

Governor Sakaja, a former patron of AFC Leopards, expressed his commitment to assisting the club beyond the monetary donation.

He revealed plans to expedite the process of acquiring land for a training facility near Kasarani Stadium, a long-held aspiration of the club.

"I will personally initiate the process of reclaiming the Kasarani land and ensure that we develop it into a training facility," Sakaja declared, outlining his commitment to aiding AFC Leopards in realizing their long-term goal of owning a training ground.

In addition to the infrastructure support, Sakaja also pledged to engage in efforts to attract more sponsors for the anniversary celebrations and beyond.

The Ingwe at 60 celebrations, set to commence on March 24, 2024, promise a month full of activities aimed at commemorating the club's rich history and achievements.

Among the planned events is a friendly match against Spanish side AE Ramassa, which is expected to be a highlight of the celebrations.

The club has also organized an inter-branches fans' tournament and extended invitations to guest teams from across Africa to participate in the festivities.

AFC Leopards boasts a storied legacy since its inception in 1964, with 12 league titles, 10 FKF Cups, and five CECAFA Club Championship crowns under its belt.

The generous contribution and support from Governor Sakaja come at a crucial time for AFC Leopards, which has faced financial challenges in recent weeks.
