According to reports from Le Site Info Sports, Mokwena has pleaded with Wydad president Hicham Aït Menna for one final opportunity to lead the Red Castle at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

“Shortly after the latter result, news emerged that the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns boss had not been paid for the entire season by the Moroccan giants, and this seemingly caused a breakdown in what already appeared to be a fragile relationship,” Soccerladuma reported.

Shocking revelations comes in the wake of Wydad’s recent struggles as the club has endured a difficult spell in the Botola Pro Inwi, drawing five consecutive matches and slipping out of the CAF Champions League qualification zone.

To compound matters, they were knocked out of the Moroccan Throne Cup in the Round of 16 by Moghreb Tetouan.

Non-impressive confesion have strained Mokwena’s relationship with the club, leading his agent, Steve Kapeluschnik, to confirm that this would be his client's first and last season in Casablanca.

However, despite the challenges, Mokwena remains determined to fulfill a personal dream before departing.

The Johannesburg-born coach is said to have made a heartfelt request to be allowed to lead Wydad at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he could potentially face global powerhouses like Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain.

Facing Pep Guardiola, one of his coaching idols, appears to be a major motivating factor behind the plea.

Mokwena had previously qualified for the tournament with Mamelodi Sundowns but left the club before the event took place.

Missing out on the opportunity again would be a bitter pill for the ambitious coach to swallow.

Mokwena is considered one of the brightest minds in African football.

His impressive two-year spell at Sundowns included back-to-back South African league titles, a domestic cup victory, and triumph in the inaugural African Football League—where he notably defeated Wydad Casablanca in the final.

His appointment at Wydad was seen as a bold step in the club’s continued push to reassert their dominance both locally and on the continental stage.

Wydad’s expectations were high and Mokwena’s pedigree made him a fitting choice to maintain their legacy.

Despite the rocky end to his stint, Mokwena’s tactical knowledge and proven track record have left an indelible mark on Wydad.

His leadership qualities, passion for the game and ability to inspire players have not gone unnoticed.
