Arsenal are reported to be in talks to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko but Manchester United believe they have a secret weapon which they can use to hijack the move.

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a bid to solve their striking problems but Manchester United could potentially spoil their plans.

The Gunners are reported to have held talks with representatives of the striker with a deal in the region of £75 million mooted but reports in Germany claim United have a secret weapon that they hope to use to hijack the deal.

United have struggled for goals in the past season with their main striker Rasmus Hojlund hugely disappointing and are looking for reinforcements in attack to solve their woes.

Now, according to journalist Christian Falk, who is the head of football at German outlet BILD, United are hoping to use head of recruitment Christopher Vivell to lure Sesko to Old Trafford as he is known to the player given he is the man who spotted him as a teenager and signed him for Austrian side RB Salzburg.

“Man Utd have a secret weapon in bid to steal Benjamin Sesko from Arsenal. There are already talks with Arsenal,” Falk is quoted saying by CaughtOffside.

“From the Premier League, besides Arsenal also Manchester United are particularly interested. Christopher Vivell was there to watch Sesko at the game in Wolfsburg in mid-April. He once helped discover him and brought the footballer to Salzburg as a 16-year-old in 2019.”

Vivell signed Sesko when he was 16 for Salzburg from Domzale in 2019 and hopes that his relationship with the striker can persuade him to ditch a move to the Emirates for Old Trafford.

However, the payer’s price will prove a stumbling block for United who have no Champions League football to generate additional revenue and will need to sell some of their prized assets to pull off a big-money transfer.

There is pressure at Old Trafford to improve the squad after their worst-ever season in the Premier League when they finished 15th but there are no funds to splash around, hence the need to sell some key players in the team.

Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho are unwanted by coach Ruben Amorim and United will look to generate close to £150 million from them but captain Bruno Fernandes, who could fetch close to £100m is wanted by Saudi club Al Hilal.
